T20 World Cup: India bowler Arshdeep Singh sanctioned by ICC after throwing ball at New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell

India bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined by the ICC after throwing a ball at New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell in Sunday's T20 World Cup final.

Arshdeep petulantly launched the ball at Mitchell, striking him on the pads in the 11th over of New Zealand's run chase, during which he had been hit for two sixes.

A furious Mitchell gesticulated and advanced towards Arshdeep, but the bowler turned and walked back to his mark instead of apologising.

It was left to India captain Suryakumar Yadav to step in and calm the situation before the confrontation escalated.

Arshdeep was found guilty of a Code of Conduct breach by the International Cricket Council for "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner".

Arshdeep, who later apologised to Mitchell at the end of the over, was fined 15 per cent of his match fee after accepting the sanction, which meant a formal hearing was not necessary.

The ICC confirmed that one demerit point had been added to Arshdeep's disciplinary record.

India became the first men's side to win the T20 World Cup three times and the first to claim back‑to‑back titles with an emphatic 96‑run victory over New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
